Our bodies know that we need cholesterol to be healthy. The liver manufacturers and distributes cholesterol.

It is a normal state for the body to contain cholesterol. Your body needs the substance, cholesterol in order to build cells, and to function. When there are high levels of cholesterol in the blood stream it is called “hypercholesterolemia”.

LDL is known as Low-density lipoprotein and is known as the “bad cholesterol. High-density lipids and triglycerides are known as the “good cholesterol“. The LDL or “bad cholesterol”, can slowly build up in the inner walls of the arteries slowing down the blood to the heart and brain. The other component in the total cholesterol value is the triglycerides.

They are formed from fat. Individuals with high triglyceride levels often consume foods that are high in cholesterol. Individuals who have diabetes or other heart disease will also have high levels of triglycerides.

The Lp cholesterol means that there is a high level of Lp (a), which is a risk factor for premature development of fatty deposits in the arteries.

Maintaining proper levels of both the good cholesterol and the bad cholesterol will go along way in keeping your body strong and healthy.

Lower Your Cholesterol Level - The Difference Between Good Cholesterol and Bad Cholesterol

Executive Summary About Good Cholesterol  By Gordon Cameron

I am frequently asked the question: “what is the difference between good cholesterol and bad cholesterol?”

So what is HDL cholesterol? (the good cholesterol) and what is ldl cholesterol? (the bad cholesterol). Cholesterol circulates in our blood attached to a protein called a lipoprotein. High density lipoprotein (HDL) or low density lipoprotein (LDL). LDL is often referred to as “bad cholesterol.”

If you are having a cholesterol check or cholesterol blood test then your doctor will look at your blood test result and check the level of the Total Cholesterol count. The ratio of the total cholesterol divided by the HDL level is thought to be a reflection of the “true cholesterol level” in your blood and as such is a good predictor of future heart attack or stroke problems.

For example - a total cholesterol count of 6.0 and an HDL count of 1.5 will give a ratio of 4.0.

I admit to bias in this book review, having written one of the four Forwards in it. Dr. Ravnskov's earlier book, The Cholesterol Myths, 2000, has become quite famous. When it went out-of-print around 2007 used copies had asking prices of $300. I read it in 2002 and referred to it frequently...Read More Buy Now
