Epistaxis or nosebleed is due to the rupture of tiny, swollen vessels in the mucous membrane of the frontal septum. Rhinitis is an inflammatory lesion involving the mucous membrane of the nose. In acute rhinitis, the nasal mucous membrane becomes congested, swollen and edematous. Excluding the recurring attacks of allergic vasomotor rhinitis, these attacks are acute exacerbations of the same common cold.

If continued, chronic rhinitis leads to the deposition of abnormally large amounts of connective tissue in the nasal mucous membrane, which thickens it greatly, and causes the formation of spurs, polyps and hypertrophies on the nasal septum.

Wasting away or atrophy of the mucous membrane, the cartilage and the bones lining the nasal passages may eventually occur. This obstruction may also lead to condition of chronic infection of the nose and result in frequent attacks of nasopharyngitis. Very often the infection extends to the sinuses of the nose, mucous lined cavities filled with air that normally drains into the nose.

Fractures of the nose usually result from direct violence. There is noticeable swelling of the soft tissues adjacent to the nose and frequently, a definite deformity.

Nose Bleeding Way!

Executive Summary About Nose Bleeds  By Mick Burrows

The most important rule to follow when suffering a nose bleed is to stay as calm as possible, because the flow of blood will increase if panic sets in. Typically, nose bleeds start in the front of the nasal septum or at the very back of the nose cavity.

The causes of nose bleeds can frequently be associated with dry nostrils, as the septum becomes crusty and is then prone to bleeding. Disorders of blood clotting or nasal cancer may occasionally be directly linked to the causes of nose bleeds, but these are rare occurrences.

For a parent, a nose bleed in their child can be extremely perturbing and seeing your child bleeding, often heavily is not a very nice experience. Very often, a nose bleed in children is caused by animated blowing or picking, so sensible advise is the order of the day.
